JOSEF HOFFMANN 135
5 piece set 925 silver
Josef HoffmannDesigned 1902
Unlike the knives with curved handles, the handles of the other pieces are flat and elegantly swing up at the end as a thumb rest. The spoons are round, which makes the eating of the soups comfortably. Unlike the other pieces, the fish fork and fish knife have wavy handles. The cutlery marks a revolution in form - a departure from historicism - but continues to uphold the tradition of Viennese table culture. Hoffmann designed the cutlery before the Wiener Werkstätte was founded (1903). The occasion was the 1902 wedding of Maria Kohn, the granddaughter of bentwood furniture maker Josef Kohn. The silversmith A.Sturm took over the execution. The cutlery is reedited according to old designs.
