JOSEF HOFFMANN
Box "Emilie Flöge"

Josef Hoffmann
Designed 1906

The rectangular lidded box is decorated by two rows of squares framed by deep grooves. The smooth lid rises in a shallow sweep to an elegant curve and is topped by a square knob. The original box, which served as a jewelry case, was made by the Wiener Werkstätte and was a gift from Gustav Klimt to his friend and muse Emilie Flöge. The design drawing is in the Wiener Werkstätte archive in the collection of the MAK Vienna (Museum of Applied Arts). Reissued after an original drawing in our archives.
