OTTO PRUTSCHER
Pumpkin Service Set
Otto PrutscherDesigned in the 1930s
The lush bodies of large and small pumpkins define the look of the tea set. Teapot, cream jug and sugar vase sit as bulbous bodies on leaf-shaped bases. Chiseled vertical grooves divide the surfaces; hammer marks give the vessels the scarred skin of the plump fruits, whose stylized stems serve as handles. The round, 12-pass tray is like a large leaf on which the gourds rest.
The choice of pumpkins or melons as models for tableware derived from Josef Hoffmann and became almost fashionable. It was one of Otto Prutscher's special talents to masterfully transfer organic forms into his repertoire of shapes. Reissued after an original drawing in our archives.
