JOSEF HOFFMANN – PROGRESS THROUGH BEAUTY
Exhibition in the MAK

Exhibition in the Museum for Applied Arts (MAK), Vienna
Until 19 June 2022

To mark the 150th birthday of Josef Hoffmann, the MAK is paying tribute to the impressive creations of the architect and designer. Until 19 June, you can view over 1000 exhibits, including cutlery no. 135, which Josef Hoffmann designed exclusively for Wiener Silber Manufactur. Hoffmann always aimed to bring beauty into people’s lives through design – to him, this was as important as aesthetic and social progress. His works bridged the gap between artistic ambition and artisanal product culture. So cutlery no. 135 also marks a revolution; created in 1903, its modern design symbolises the departure from historicism while upholding the Viennese dining culture.
